chairsforkids-pediatricwheelchair2Ok folks, now I’ll share more on how to go about deciding which wheel chairs for kids are the most suitable for your child.

I’ve already wrote down some of the common categories of chairs that can be found and now the next step would be on what types of functions and materials are available.

Pediatric wheel chairs for kids that are able to grow with you child will definitely provide the best cost saving for parents. Such components as those that allow you to lengthen or even widen the chair makes it possible for it to be used for as long as 10 years.

The frames are typically made from steel or even aluminum. Of course, alluminum frames would mean lighter wheel chairs for kids compared to steel. If possible, parents are also encouraged to look for seats which are contoured and moulded to the child to ensure you child is more secure and provide more comfort. Safety straps or bands can be attached to help kids who have limited strength.

Accessories wise, parents can help provide the best for their child to encourage independent mobility and to do the things they love. Some examples such as including a mount for the laptop computer, a desktop for playing cards, cup holders, bumper stickers, colorful tote bags to hold their things, colorful seat cushion covers or even spoke guards which have bright colors or themes.

Making a decision on the right pediatric wheel chairs for kids can be a long process, but with the right choice, parents will feel better that they have chosen the best chair that meets their child’s physical needs.

PS: Parents are advised to consult with their child’s physician and physical therapist for their recommendations on the type of chair that is best for them.

chairsforkids-pediatricwheelchairMuch like the typical adult wheel chairs for kids, pediatric wheel chairs are fashioned the same way. These chairs help to provide independence and mobility for children with a number of physical challenges.

The number of styles, types, and colors of pediatric wheel chairs for kids available on the market today can be both comforting and overwhelming, especially to a parent trying to choose the right one.

Pediatric wheelchairs are categorized by a child’s age, size, and physical requirements such as:

  • Specialty Chairs – customized to fit specific needs of the child.
  • Small Pediatric Chair – designed especially for children who are under six years old or younger (sometimes appear as a stroller).
  • Growing Pediatric Wheelchairs – for children six years old and up; feature cross braces that can be replaced to accommodate the child as she grows.
  • Sport Wheel Chairs – lightweight and colorful; allow child to participate in sports or simply for daily use.
  • Standing Pediatric Wheel Chair – this uniquely styled chair allows children who have use of their legs, (but still require a wheel chair), to stand up and participate in activities or stretch out at any given time.
  • Standard Pediatric Chairs – manual wheelchairs for children.

I’ll be writing more in the next post on some practical buying guides to consider when looking for pediatric wheel chairs the kids will just love.
